Graduate campaign for housing leaders of the future launched

The Ignite programme, delivered by Wheatley Group, which includes DGHP, has launched today (Monday 4 July) and is looking for young people to join its 2022 intake, with applicants having until the 22 July to apply.

Successful candidates will join the two-year programme and receive on-the-job training and development, opportunities for further study and qualifications, as well as mentoring support to help build a successful career in housing.

Trainees will work across Wheatley’s social housing and property subsidiaries, which also includes Wheatley Homes Glasgow, Dunedin Canmore, Loretto and WLHP.

Since launching in 2019, Wheatley has recruited 65 graduates through its Ignite graduate scheme.

Alan Glasgow, DGHP Managing Director, said: “The Ignite graduate programme is a fantastic opportunity for young people across Dumfries and Galloway to progress their careers in one of the country’s most exciting and diverse sectors.

“At DGHP, we have housing officers who started on this scheme and have very quickly made a real impact in the communities we represent.

“I would encourage any graduate who thinks a career in housing could be for them, to sign-up for this year’s Ignite Programme.”

Sophie Hughes joined the Ignite Programme in November 2020, after studying International Business Management. She is now a housing officer with DGHP, based in Annan. She was encouraged to apply to the graduate scheme after her mum spotted an advert on social media.

Sophie, 24, said: “A lot of people don’t necessarily think about a career in housing. But there is so much excitement, so many opportunities and it is a good feeling knowing you can make such a difference to people’s lives.

“Maybe it was an accidental start for me in housing, but I can’t imagine doing another job now.”

Applicants have until 5pm on 22 July 2022 to apply to join the programme.
