Technical information about this website’s accessibility:

We know some parts of this website aren’t yet fully accessible. We will identify and fix issues.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below:

  • some text has poor colour contrast
  • older PDF documents are not fully accessible to a screen reader (see section below)
  • some images are not marked as decorative
  • some images do not have good alternative text
  • some heading elements are not consistent (levels skipped)
  • homepage slider is not accessible
  • some link text contains extra content or unclear when read out of context
  • some text labels missing
  • some text is too small/too close together
  • some linked external documents may not be fully accessible (see PDF section below)

Several of our leaflets and application forms are available on the site for downloading. Most of these documents are in PDF format which means they can only be viewed using Adobe Reader. This software is available free of charge from the Adobe Web site

All PDF documents on this site will open in a new browser window. After viewing or printing the document, you can close the browser window to return to your initial page.

The accessibility regulations don’t require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

We plan to add missing text alternatives for images. When we publish new content we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.
