Stranraer tenant praises new kitchen after Wheatley investment

Wheatley Homes South is spending £39.1 million across the region between 2025 and 2028 to make its homes warmer, drier and cheaper for tenants to run.

The work will see new kitchens installed in 1600 homes and nearly 300 new front or back doors fitted in homes across Dumfries and Galloway.

The programme will also see 150 new electric heating systems and more than 300 new gas boilers fitted in homes.

Mark Hamilton, from Stranraer, is one of the Wheatley customers who has recently had a new kitchen installed.

He said: “My new kitchen looks nice and fresh and is good to work in. It’s an improvement on the old one.

“There is more space, and more drawers, and it feels fresher, with modern flooring, finishes and handles. The work was good, as was the fit and finish of the kitchen.

“I’m pleased to see this investment in my home and other investment going into the local area.”

The plans have been shaped by tenants, who asked for more investment in existing homes and improvements to make them more energy efficient as fuel bills remain high.
