Wheatley customer “over the moon” with investment in their home

Customers across Dumfries and Galloway are benefiting from over £39 million of investment from the region’s largest social landlord.

Wheatley Homes South is spending £39.1 million across the region as part of its 2025-2028 investment plan in making homes warmer, drier and cheaper to run.

Andy Paterson, 50, an HGV driver from Lochside, recently had a new kitchen installed in his home.

He said: “The old kitchen was completely ripped out on Monday and by Thursday the new units were in, with the flooring fitted on the Friday.

“The team doing the work were great and nothing was a problem for them.

"I wasn't sure what to expect, but it's night and day to what it was like. I’m absolutely over the moon.”

Wheatley’s investment programme will see new kitchens installed in 1650 homes and nearly 300 new front or back doors fitted in homes across Dumfries and Galloway.

At the same time, 150 new electric heating systems installed and over 300 new gas boilers fitted in homes.

The plans have been shaped by the views of tenants who asked for more money to be spent improving existing homes, while also making them more efficient to help with rising fuel bills.

Alex Lamb, Managing Director of Wheatley Homes South, said:

“Wheatley is committed to making our homes warmer, safer and more comfortable, that’s why we’re investing millions of pounds every year to improve homes and support our customers.

“These ambitious plans are driven by what our customers have told us they want - new kitchens, improved heating and homes that are warmer and more affordable to run.

“This investment will make a real difference to everyday life and help ensure our homes and communities remain great places for our customers to live for years to come.”
