Award for DGHP’s new Lochfield Road development

DGHP’s new housing development in Dumfries has received a prestige award – the first of its kind in Dumfries and Galloway.

The ‘Secured by Design Developers Award’ – presented to DGHP by Police Scotland – is a certificate given to building programmes which meet ‘Secured by Design’ guidelines. This follows consultation with the local police architectural liaison officer.

The development at Palmerston View, Lochfield Road, Dumfries was recently completed and families moved in back in August.

Alan Wilson, of Police Scotland, said: “The programme has been running for many years and it is known that, as consequence of the achievement of this award, a significant volume of crime can be prevented.

“Palmerston View is the first development within Dumfries and Galloway to achieve the new ‘gold standard award’.”

DGHP’s Chairman, Robert Higgins, recently visited the new housing development and met with tenants who had moved in.

The 16 homes, completed ahead of schedule, were built for DGHP by contractors Ashleigh Scotland and designed by Robert Potters & Partners; McGowan Miller and Asher Associates.

The development was part funded by Scottish Government and Dumfries and Galloway Council grants.

The properties are made up of two 2-bedroom semi-detached houses; 2 three-bedroom semi-detached houses and 12 one-bedroom cottage flats.

Robert Higgins, Chairman of DGHP, said: “This outstanding development features great new homes for social rent and they are an excellent example of how DGHP is providing good quality homes for tenants for the future.

“All of the properties are completed to a high standard, with four of them being silver and gold level, addressing the need for new energy efficient and affordable homes of the future. We are delighted to be awarded the ‘Secured by Design Developers Award’.”

The silver standard properties include water butts, home office desk spaces and mechanical heat ventilation recovery systems. The gold standard also have, in addition, solar thermal panels for hot water, mobility charging points, intruder alarms, enhanced natural lighting, bicycle storage and triple glazed windows. All properties have solar photo-voltaic panels for electricity.
