Dumfries and Galloway Council has given the green light for eight new homes for social rent at a gap site on Main Street, formerly occupied by the Glenbay House Hotel.

The development by Wheatley in the village will help meet local housing need while restoring the streetscape in a prominent location in the village.

Designed to reflect the character of the surrounding area, the homes will include parking, improved access and landscaped outdoor space. A shared rear garden will feature planting, trees and paths for residents.

Solar panels will also be installed to support energy efficiency.

Work is expected to start early 2027, with families moving into the new homes later in the year.

Alex Lamb, Managing Director of Wheatley Homes South, said:

“Approval of these plans means we can now move forward with delivering much-needed new affordable homes in Glenluce.

“These homes will help meet local demand while bringing an empty site back into use and continue to play our part in addressing the housing need in the region.

“We’re grateful for the support of Dumfries and Galloway Council and the Scottish Government and look forward to work starting on the site in 2027.”

The new homes form part of Wheatley’s wider investment in Dumfries and Galloway, which will see hundreds of new and energy-efficient homes delivered by 2028.

Wheatley previously announced it will invest £39.1m in Dumfries and Galloway homes and communities by 2028; with £10.9m spent in Annandale; £14m in Nithsdale; £4.8m in the Stewartry, and £9.4m in Wigtownshire.
